At Narrato, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have regarding your data. We've written it in plain language — no legalese walls of text.
By using the Narrato app ("Service"), you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you register, we collect:
- Email address — used for login, account recovery, and communications
- First and last name — displayed in the app
- Password — stored as a bcrypt hash (never in plaintext)
1.2 Content You Upload
To convert your content to audio, we process:
- PDF files you upload
- URLs you submit for web content extraction
- EPUB files you upload
- Text you paste or type directly
This content is processed by our text-to-speech engine (UnrealSpeech) and the resulting audio is stored in your account library. We do not read, analyze, or sell your content.
1.3 Usage Data
We automatically collect basic usage information including:
- Device type, OS version, app version
- Playback progress and listening duration (so we can resume where you left off)
- Error logs for debugging
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the Service — convert your content to audio and deliver it to your library
- To authenticate you — manage login sessions and account security
- To improve the app — analyze crashes and usage patterns to fix bugs and improve features
- To communicate with you — send important account notifications (we do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent)
3. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure servers. We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- Password hashing (bcrypt, 10 rounds)
- JWT-based authentication with short-lived access tokens (15 minutes)
- HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
- Database access controls and regular security reviews
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We will notify you of any breach that affects your personal data as required by law.
4. Third-Party Services
We share your content with the following services solely to provide the app's core functionality:
- UnrealSpeech — Our text-to-speech engine. Your text is transmitted to UnrealSpeech for processing. Their data handling is governed by their privacy policy.
We do not sell your data to advertisers or any third parties.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:
- Your account and personal information are permanently deleted within 30 days
- Your uploaded content and generated audio files are deleted immediately
- Anonymized usage statistics may be retained for analytical purposes
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — Update incorrect or incomplete data via your profile settings
- Deletion — Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Portability — Request your data in a machine-readable format
- Opt-out — Unsubscribe from non-essential communications at any time

7. Children's Privacy
Narrato is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us immediately.

- Sending an email to your registered address
- Displaying a notice in the app
- Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
